Marianne's Response
care of Hawaiian Ti plants
My brand new Hawaiian Ti plants are splitting at the end of the leaves and are also turning yellow and brown. These were just installed by the landscaper about 3 weeks ago. Should I just cut off the entire yellow/brown/split leaves and it will regrow or what do I do? These are outdoor plants.

Marianne's Response
Splitting leaves on Ti plans and orchids is most often caused by lack of humidity. Ti plants are members of the cordyline family and if you had them planted as outdoor plants, I assume you live in Hawaii or a similar tropical climate. They do not do well if temp goes below 50 degrees and the soil needs to stay moist but drain well. This plant is best transplanted in the spring. I am going to guess the plants are suffering from transplant shock. You can remove the yellow or brown leaves and in the spring add a slow release plant food like Osmocote at the base of each plant following dosage on the label. You should enjoy fresh new growth once the plants adjust to their new home. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
