carol2925’s Question
We have just had seven 10′ Green Giant Arborvitae planted and I am planning on using Osmocote 14-14-14 slow release on them early this Fall and am wondering how much to work into each tree?

First, Osmocote works best when used in the spring as it is warm soil that activates the fertilizer and feeding shrubs in the fall can cause tender new growth that is then damaged in the winter. You want to encourage the new shrubs to prepare for winter not sprout new growth. I suggest you use one tablespoon of Osmocote around the base of each shrub in late spring when you see foliage emerging from trees and shrubs. A mulch on top of the soil and making sure the newly planted shrubs do not dry out this summer are more important right now than feeding them. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
