Yes, perennials will thrive in large pots, but you must use potting soil so that it will drain well, making sure the pots have drainage holes and live in an area where the soil will not freeze inside the pots. Or, you can drag the pots to a protected area so the soil will not freeze solid. Clematis will die if allowed to dry out, or if the roots freeze. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
