Marianne's Response

cincinwi55’s Question

Can you tell me what this is? They are growing randomly in my flower bed and I did not plant them. They grow just like this, one leaf at a time.

Thank you!

Oh, how lucky you are. You have hardy cyclamen popping up in your garden and these are corms or bulb like plants that will flower with pink or white blooms in fall or spring depending on the species. They were most likely planted by ants that love the seeds of this flower and move them from one garden to another. The foliage will disappear soon and then the leafless blooms will appear later. They spread politely so do not worry. Hardy cyclamen like part shade and well-drained soil popping up even in dry stream beds and in the dry shade near evergreens.
