Growing lush hydrangeas in a planter or large pot
Is it possible to grow a hydrangea in a large pot outside? I live in Northeast Indiana and have seen them growing in the ground, but wondered about a large pot.

Yes, hydrangeas do great in pots. You will need a large, deep container, at least 24 inches wide and deep. You must also protect the pot from freezing temps. Grow it close to a covered porch or patio. You can wrap the pot with bubble wrap for insulation from the cold and cover it with a sheet on the coldest nights or during the coldest winter months. There are some new hydrangeas called \"Endless Summer\", these can take a hard pruning in the spring and still flower the same summer as they bloom on both old and new wood. These more expensive hydrangeas are worth the investment as you can control the size of your potted hydrangea. You will also get to see flowers even if a hard winter freezes the flower buds. Add a bit of peat moss or extra compost to the potting soil, hydrangeas love moist soil.
Keep Growing,
