Temporarily move your perennials during home repair
I have to dig up my perennials (phlox, dianthis) because we are having new steps built. My plants will be out of the ground about 4-5 days while the steps are being built. I plan to replant them in the same place they were. how can I keep my plants healthy while they are out of the ground?

Just place the plants into large pots or even a wheelbarrow keeping as much soil as possible around the root balls. Loosely cover the roots with more soil or a damp towel. Move to a shaded location to keep the plants cool and moist. They may pout a bit after you replant them, but in a few weeks the will be fully recovered.
Keep growing,
