Marianne's Response
cnelson-question
I dug my begonias last fall but never completely took them out of their dirt. I placed them in pots and they sent out leaves, never really completely died. I have had them in my garage; never watered them. Should I cut off growth and put them in the ground when spring comes or what?
Thanks

No- don't break off those leaves. Your begonias had a little rest and are now ready to grow. Pot them up but don't plant those sprouting tubers too deep. Grow them near a bright window indoors and feed with a liquid plant food like Miracle Gro but at half strength about once a week until May. Only after all danger of frost is passed can you set the begonias back outdoors and watch them take off. There are so many new types of begonias out there now like the Non-stop\" series with tons of blooms and the bright orange \"Bonfire\" begonias that I think these shade-loving plants are becoming my favorite summer bloomer. The begonias with delicate white edging around the petals are called \"picotee\" begonias and these are especially lovely as well.
Let's hear it for more begonias!
