How to encourage female flowers on acorn squash

I am growing acorn squash. The plants look great, but I am only getting male flowers. How do I entice the female flowers to start growing? I have gotten a couple female flowers that grow to about 1/4 of an inch and then they die. I need help!

The first blooms on squash are all female and picking some of these off will encourage more male blossoms so harvest some blossoms now. You should also pick a few of the young squash that form to encourage more blooms. Overwatering will cause the small squash to fall off and squash are heavy feeders so remember to keep them well fertilized. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
