Marianne's Response

Crows tearing up the lawn

The crows have started to tear up part of our lawn. Is there a way to stop that? I read that it is from an invasive beetle that the crows like to eat, and that we should just let them do it and that the grass will come back after the beetles are gone. If that is right, how long do we wait for that? Is that a couple months? A couple seasons?
Thanks for your wisdom!

Marianne's Response

Well a torn up lawn is certainly not something to crow about but letting those birds remove the beetle larvae is indeed the best way to control an overpopulation of grubs.  I also agree that your lawn will indeed restore itself once spring arrives and you fertilize. You may also want to consider thatching your lawn and avoid overwatering. This will help to deter future outbreaks of lawn larvae. I predict by mid April your lawn will look as good as new.
