Make sure the soil is moist, grab a butter knife and dig into the soil around the onions uprooting the grasses. It is painstaking hand work but you will enjoy the almost instant satisfaction of hand weeding around your edible crops. Keeping the soil moist makes the grasses easier to pull from the soil.
