Garlic bulbs can be planted in the fall in most parts of the country where winters are cold, but in warm winter areas you should check with the extension agent in your county for best planting times. The bulbs should be divided into cloves and planted 2 inches deep for regular garlic and 4 inches deep for the large elephant garlic. Space 6 inches apart for regular garlic, twice that for elephant garlic. Mulch after planting if you live where the soil freezes. You can also plant garlic in the early spring but it does best when planted in the fall, before the first frost. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
