Marrianne,

We have lost two Japanese Red Leaf Maples. It has been determined by an arborist that the tree has verticillium wilt. We purchased the trees from Nursery Trees in Snohomish. They do not have this disease in their soil. They have offered to plant a new Japanese Snowbell Tree. The tree will be in the middle of a flower bed. Would that be a good tree for that bed? I was looking at a Cornus Kousa Wolf Eye tree but not sure if it would survive. The location is full sun southern exposure. We are in southeast Auburn on the valley floor with no rocks and good amended sandy soil. Thanks. Denise

I vote for the Japanese Snowbell tree all the way. The Cornus kousa \'Wolf Eye\' has some problems with blights and may also suffer from the infected soil. The Snowbell will be more disease resistant. Make sure there is good drainage and don\'t let your newly planted tree stand in wet soil. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
