Displaced frog

Hi Marianne,
I’m hoping you can help me with this since I am not a frog expert.

One lived in or under my pot of strawberries this year. The pot was sitting on a triangle of 3 red bricks for drainage. I discovered a frog was hanging out in the plant one day when I was watering. A few weeks later, it crawled out from under the pot. It had been hiding in the space between the bricks.

I dismantled the strawberry pot recently, but didn’t move the bricks. So today when I went to move the bricks, the frog was in one of the “corners”. It crawled out and hopped away. He sat there looking at me before he moved off.

My question is: how can I make a place for the frog? The bricks are just regular ones, small. They are along the back of a fence with crushed rock where I grow my plants in the summer. Should I move the bricks to another location or just put them away for winter as usual and expect the frog will find another place in my garden. There are a lot of places it might like but it’s all in the front yard. The back yard is mostly lawn and a couple of trees.

Thanks. I know it’s a strange question.
Thank you for this website. So much information and sharing!

How kind you are to be concerned about your yard frog. Also, having a frog in the garden is good news as they not only eat slugs and eggs but are a sign of a healthy ecosystem. The short answer is don't worry, go ahead and move the bricks if you want as the frog will likely dig a hole and go into winter hibernation soon. Then in the spring your little prince should reappear to help you out in the garden. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
