Yes! A mulch such as bark chips or compost will seal in moisture and block out weeds and makes for healthier plants. Just don't pile the mulch up around the trunks or stems of plants. Think \"doughnut\" and leave an opening in the center making a circle of mulch that is deeper on top of the roots, but barely covering the soil next to the trunk or stem of the plants.
