dogluvr’s Question

The HOA has a number of arbivitaes on both sides of our entrance. A few of them have brown spot. I asked an arborist that was in the development and he said there a critters that are eating bugs that are in the bark. Another home owner asked her landscaper and was told the trees are diseased. I am wondering if they really are diseased as there are only a few trees with brown spot.

Marianne's Response

Maybe I'll just give a third opinion - the branches broke in a wind storm and are just now showing the distress.....the fact is I am not sure what is going on and unless you bring a sample into a nursery or Extension agent you can't be sure. It does not look like a disease as the brown is so localized. You could just cut out the brown and hope for the best. Sorry I could not be more helpful on this question. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
