Marianne's Response

No blueberries this year?

I have 14 blueberry bushes in my backyard along a 6 foot tall wooden fence that have been there over 20 years…every year they have produced like crazy except this year. There are hardly any berries and tons of leaves… they are acting like they were already picked and putting on leaves. Help!

You have me stumped. There are several reasons why berries do not form - lack of pollination, dry soil in the fall so flowers did not form or too much shade are a few ideas. Did you experience a hot, dry summer? When the entire row is sterile, my best guess is the unusual weather pattern. Better luck next year. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
