Surprise lilies? Naked ladies?

I have a flower bulb that has a pinky, peachy flower. I was told they are called “surprise” lilies. There are no leaves—just a stalk and a flower. I would like to know the name of his flower.

Thanks,
Dee

Sounds like you have the Belladonna lily or Amaryllis belladonna. The bulb sends up green shoots in the spring, then the leaves disappear. The thick stalk and pink lily-like blooms sprout in the fall. They are also called \"Naked Ladies\" because they appear without leaves and because the name \"bella donna\" means beautiful woman in the Italian language. Enjoy (or as they would say in Italy, salute). Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
