Marianne's Response

Feedback on my gooseberry question

Is it possible that my currant worms were actually sawfly larvae/worms? In desperation, despite thinking they were currant worms, and despite a sense that they responded somewhat to BT, I decided over the fall/winter that they could be sawflies, and hit them with 2 good shots of pyrethin when the baby worms were first started doing leaf damage — maybe 8 weeks ago? No recurrences at all. I think it must have been sawfly worms and killed not only the worms but also everything harbored in the mulch on the ground beneath the plants. I’m blown away.

Yeah! That is great news that the alternative method that you used worked out so well for you. Gooseberries are susceptible to both those pests and they are treated differently. Thanks also for your feedback. We all learn from each other in the gardening world. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
