This popular houseplant is easy to care for if you remember the biggest rule: Do not over water. Allow the soil of your Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree to dry out completely before watering and during the winter months water even less.  Too much water, cold drafts, too much fertilizer and too little light are the main reasons this plant might suddenly drop leaves. It likes bright light and a slow release plant food such as Osmocote applied once a year in the spring. If one of the lowest leaves turns yellow and falls off do not be too concerned. The Ficus family drops leaves as part of its natural life cycle much like we lose hair on an ongoing basis. One more tip - do not let any houseplant stand in drainage water. Set the nursery pot on top of corks, rocks or overturned plastic cups inside a larger decorative pot to catch drainage water without having the roots sit in the excess moisture, You can wipe down the huge leaves to add moisture to the air but in your climate dry air  and low humidity may not be a problem.
