free seeds for next year 2019

I am a beginner at gardening and looking for seeds for next years harvest. I am having trouble finding free seed samples from companys, organizations etc. Since it is late in the year I do not plan to do anything until next year. I am looking for flowers, seeds and bulbs, herbs and spices and vegetables to plant in my yard. I have a small yard with one pot of peppermint, one pot of spearmint and one small planter of strawberries with no strawberries this year and one blackberry tree that puts out a lot of berries. The yard is mostly shaded so I cannot plant much for full sun plants. I guess I am looking for shaded – partly shade plants. I mostly want seeds so I can trade for other seeds and accumulate a decent variety of seeds for next year. Open to suggestions.

thank you for your time

Hi Melissa, It sounds like you need to join a garden club or your local master gardener program. Fellow gardeners in your area will be happy to swap seeds with you and if you want free seeds than joining a garden club is the way to go. I do know of seed companies that donate their left over seeds (Ed Hume Seeds) but these go to charitable or non profits not individual people. Gardeners that save their own seeds from their own plants are the ones that can not only swap seeds but teach you more about gardening. Their is a group of dedicated seed savers that you can find online under Seed Savers Exchange. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
