Fruit Trees in Florida

We just moved to Florida from New Jersey. There were two trees in the yard here in Florida when we moved in. A Lemon tree and a Lime tree. Lime tree looks dead, Lemon tree is out of control. And I want to know in Orlando Florida can I plant a fig tree? I am trying to find a fruit tree specialist but no matter what search I use I keep getting tree trimming and removal and not a fruit tree specialist who an tell me what to do with the trees I have and if I can plant a fig tree. I would be interested in a service too that comes and prunes and feeds them. Any ideas on who in this area can help me?

Yes - your best source of local information is a local nursery or garden club. These are the people that will let you know if a Master Gardener program in your area offers free advice. A local nursery will also be the expert on whether a fig tree can grow in your area or not. Look for an independent or family run nursery that has experienced help or ask to speak to the owner if you want very specific information on varieties and pruning methods.
