Fuchsia seeds

I was wanting to know if you could save seeds from a fuchsia plant and start a flower and if so how would I do it. Thank you for your time

Marianne's Response

Growing fuchsias from seed is possible but rarely done as they are so easy to start from cuttings. Even the professional growers take cuttings. Just snip off the tip growth about six inches long, remove lower leaves and poke cut end into damp sand or perlite until roots form. Spray or cover with plastic to keep humidity high. In about six weeks you can pot up the rooted cuttings. If you like a challenge you can harvest the seed from the fuchsia berry or seed pod and dry it out. There will be a bunch of seeds inside each berry. Be patient as it could take 4 years to grow a plant to blooming size. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
