Fungi

Nearly all of my melon vines, several different varieties of melons, are being decimated by 2 to 3 types of fungus. I grew everything from seed and transplanted seedlings into raised beds filled with a high quality nursery mix. Where might the fungi be coming from and should I start treating the seedlings with organic fungicide immediately after transplanting?

The fungus among us needs a host, the pathogen which may have been in your soil and moisture to get started. Poor air circulation and poor drainage or getting the foliage whet when you water can all contribute to an outbreak. Yes, I suggest you use a fungicide when the plants are young to control the problem in the future. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
