Marianne's Response
My overwintered geraniums have white shoots coming out of them, are they still alive?
Good April morning. I wintered over some geraniums from last year in a dark cellar. When I retrieved them this week 4/3/14, they had these “albino-like” shoots coming up. I trimmed the old leaves and dead branches away. I live in zone 8a (Edmonds). Can you please advise me how to resurrect them? I am unemployed and have no money for new plants.

Those white shoots just need sunlight to make green chlorophyll and make new geraniums. Move them indoors at night as geraniums cannot handle the late frosts we usually get in April. Fertilize the potted geraniums now with Osmocote so that they will be fed slowly from the slow release granules. Be patient as over-wintered geraniums can take until August to set buds and finally bloom. Congratulations on your overwintering success and good luck in finding the perfect job.
Keep growing,
