Marianne's Response
Golden grass
Hi, Marianne,
I’m burned out on paying huge water bills every summer so I decided to do the environmentally responsible thing and “go gold”. I have heard that a lawn needs only an inch of water weekly to survive. Is that fact or estimate or folklore or what?

How much water a lawn needs to survive depends on the type of grass and your region. Here in Western Washington a lawn can survive on one inch of water a week and even though it will turn golden during late summer it will green up again in the fall. There are also drought resistant grass seed blends that require even less water. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
