TNT 11/20/13 p c-10 Japanese Maples….Is the Blood Good Japanese the same as Burning Bush?????????
Have medium size front yard with AM sun until noon then sun in south and house reduces amount of sun in front yard. My lilies do very well in the front yard.
Need bush that will not grow to big or tall. I have seen one Burning Bush and liked how it looked. Thank you. Ann

Hi Ann, the Blood Good Japanese maple is not the same as the burning bush, but both do have red foliage. One is a maple tree with small leaves and the burning bush is a shrub called Euonymus alatus compacta. The burning bush grows very large and wide up to 8 feet tall and 10 feet wide. Not a good choice for small yard. Japanese maple is a great tree for a small yard but will still get 15 to 20 feet tall and cast shade. If you are looking for a small shrub to plant with your lilies perhaps some low growing heathers or dwarf conifers. Tidy and compact dwarf conifers come in upright and spreading forms, are evergreen and some grow as little as one half inch per year. Many larger nurseries now offer a collection of different types and winter is still a good time to check them out and add these small evergreens to the landscape. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
