I have two groundcover plant suggestions for clay soil. The first is bishops weed or Aergopodium but this one is extremely invasive. The other is vinca major or vinca minor  or one of the other members of the vinca family. Again, be sure you have the space as these can really spread. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
