Ground Cover Advice
Hello, last year I planted Myrtle in a shady area. This season I’m seeing a new plant that has covered a large expanse of the area. The Myrtle plants are still there, and I’m not sure if these are “young” Myrtle or another species. And is it recommended? My plant app says it’s Buckthorn, and that it’s very invasive. Will you please advise?
Thank you!

If you did not plant this new plant, it is considered a volunteer. Now the question is if you like it, call it a native groundcover. If you do not like it, call it a weed and dig it out. It is your garden and you can decide what you want to grow. If it was my garden I would live with this new plant for a year and see what it does. The myrtle should be fine, just decide if you want this volunteer plant in your garden or not. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
