Here is a better picture of the insects I am trying to ID
I have cropped the picture to show the bugs. Not real sharp, but you can see they are 6 legged with a large posterior. There is an ant in the photo; but it is significantly larger than these critters.
The bugs are all over the leaves.

Thanks for the closeup. Those are weevils. There are many types of weevils some specific to just carrots, cabbage or beans but all overwinter in garden debris. It helps to rotate your crops so that an infestation does not take over. You can treat weevils with parasitic nematodes or a dusting of diatomaceous earth to deter weevils or if you prefer a traditional pesticide make sure it is listed for use on edibles. Your infestation is quite severe so you may want to consider digging out the infested plants and letting the area lie fallow this summer to get control of the weevil situation. Don't give up, insects arrive in peaks then will die down as predators find them. Think of all the birds you are feeding. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
