You have one of the hardy hibiscus plants but it may not survive in very cold climates as it is sold to survive only as cold as zone 5. To give your hibiscus the best chance of surviving in the ground (if in a pot just bring it indoors or in a cold garage for the winter) stop feeding it by the end of August and then in mid fall cut it back so that all that is left is a stem 4 inches tall. Yes, this seems drastic but will help the plant go dormant so it can survive winter. Add a mulch 2 to 4 inches deep on top of the roots. Now wait it our. This plant is very slow to sprout in the spring but don't give up - sometimes you see signs of growth as late as July. Then you get to enjoy the plant blooming year after year - but always late due to the cold winters. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
