How to Make Compost

Hello Marianne;
I would appreciate knowing the best compost you recommend using for garden borders?

Thank you

Marianne's Response

Hi Betty, I recommend making your own compost from green grass clippings, brown leaves, and garden refuse, but if you want the name of a specific compost company, I am afraid that depends on where you live. It is best to purchase local compost made from organic dairy farms or from cities that make their own compost for sale to citizens. The goal is to use a weed-free composted product to spread around your beds. It is important that you use a compost that has been heated up enough to kill weed seeds.  Sometimes you can find compost products in bags at garden centres. The most practical solution to finding a brand in your area may be to talk to local gardeners, such as Master Gardeners and garden club members, who will know the brand names of composts and mulches in your part of the country. Sometimes it is even the local zoos that offer great compost to citizens, so be open to what the local garden experts have found that works in your area. Keep growing - and improving your soil, Marianne Binetti
