My sympathies as Japanese beetles are feeding machines in the summer. A few ideas are to place a tarp under infested plants and shake the beetles onto it early in the morning when they are groggy. You can also buy or build Japanese beetle traps baited with pheromones, and try a pesticide with Rotenone to control the pests. The feeding pattern of the beetles is very much temperature related and they like to dine in full sun, in large social groups when it is between 83 and 95 degrees. They stop feeding when it rains or grows cool. Geranium and marigold grown nearby will discourage Japanese beetles as they hate the strong smell and larkspur is poisonous to them but they eat it anyway so use it as way to lure the beetles to a last supper.
