Yes, the trumpet vine or Campsis can be invasive especially in warm summer climates but if you cut back the suckers or new sprouts as they appear in tehe spring you can more easily control the spread. This vine will bloom more fully if you cut it back shoots in summer to keep it bushy, cut out the oldest vines in the spring to encourage new growth and if the whole plant needs a fresh start you can cut this plant to the ground in spring and enjoy fresh new growth. I suggest you cut the main stem in spring and snip back any long branches and new sprouts this summer. It does take maintenance to control trumpet vine but for many the brilliant blooms are worth it.
