How to get rid of gnarly growth on rose plants?
We just discovered a gnarly growth on some of the branches of our rose of Sharon. The tree appears health and blooms.

That looks like a stem gall or fungal infection. You should try to cut it out then sterilize your pruning tools. You do not need to decapitate the entire shrub if it is low on the plant. Just try to remove most of it. This is not a fast moving fungal disease and many plants out grow it with sunshine and dry weather. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
