Identify Plant

I submitted this on May 19, 2024; trying again.
If I keep this plant in water, it continues to grow. However once I plant it, leaves always start turning yellow and die. Any help would be appreciated.

This is a dieffenbachia also called dumb cane and it is an easy to grow houseplant. You can cut off a stem and root it in water but do not try to plant it too soon into soil or it will wilt and die. Best to wait until there are many roots, all at least 8 inches long. Then transplant it into potting soil and water well. Keep the newly planted stem cutting away from direct light for a few weeks and keep the soil moist. It should settle in and continue to make new roots. Good for you learning how to propagate plants.
