Marianne's Response

The scent of Jasmine flowers

I have planted Jasmine climbers on two sides of my swimming pool. These vines are growing well and also flowering. I remember my childhood experience in India where my father had also planted Jasmine vines over our garden walls. During summer our yard would have heavenly breeze wafting sweet fragrance all night long. However the plants in my yard in Orlando, Florida do not have the fragrance that I was expecting.
What is wrong?

Marianne's Response

You may planted the wrong variety of Jasmine. Many plants also give off a stronger fragrance at night and perhaps you are taking the sniff test during the day. Do you have the plant tag to tell me what variety you have planted? Patience may also be needed if the vines were just planted this year. The number of blooms must build up to a number to make a fragrance impact. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
