Itoh Peony Bloom Time

Is it still a bit early to get buds to develop on Itoh Peonies? Mine just finished brushing out. I don’t see any buds forming. I live in Bonney Lake and get a lot of sun. I did feed them some fertilizer in the past month. I have a friend that lives in Renton and most of her Peonies are blooming now. I made sure they weren’t buried too deep this past year to encourage more blooms. 😳

Marianne's Response

The middle of May is when you can expect most peonies to be in bloom or bud so you may not get any blooms this year. Fertilizing, sun and making sure the roots do not dry out in the months of August and September are all things you can do to increase your flower production of these peonies. Sometimes a plant is just not mature enough to flower so patience can bring in the blooms. If your peony still does not bloom next year then perhaps you need to move it or lose it.
