Ferns are most easily multiplied by dividing the root clump or rhizomes. This is best done in early spring before the new leaves emerge. If you were given a rhizome or clump of fern roots without leaves and you have planted into soil, you should see foliage sprout in a few weeks. The rhizomes will die if allowed to dry out so perhaps if your fern has no foliage by the month of June it has died. My sympathies. Keep trying as ferns divided at the correct time of year (early spring before they sprout new fronds) are easy to propagate if kept moist. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
