I am a bit too practical to recommend covering hydrangeas next to the house because there is nothing that will look decent - burlap or cloth is needed so the plants can get air circulation. Instead I recommend planting the new more winter hardy hydrangeas that flower on both old and new wood. These are called 'Endless Summer' hydrangeas.
