Marianne's Response
Why won’t my Esperanza plant bloom?
We planted an Esperanza plant at the beginning of spring or early summer. It was 12 inches tall and now it is 6 foot with no blooms. What might be wrong?

Esperanza is a Texas native plant that needs full sun and warm, fertile soil. Did you ever see flower buds? If the leaves on your giant plant are dark green it is possible this native was hit with a high nitrogen lawn food by mistake. Extra nitrogen can make blooming plants grow tall but not flower. It could also have been mislabeled at the nursery. Life is too short to put up with disappointing plants so don't feel bad about rooting it out and replacing it.
Keep growing,
