Marianne's Response
Can I use last year’s potting soil?
When it comes to replanting my pots, I wonder at the advice to use completely new potting mix. Is that optimal, or can I economize by adding half new potting soil with fertilizer? I like to plant peas, tomatoes, and annuals in pots.

I always reuse at least half of the previous year's potting soil and see no problems. You do need to mix the old potting soil with the new as the old soll may be compacted or water logged from winter rains. The top layer of old potting soil that is full of roots from annual plants can go into the compost pile or spread on top flower beds. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
