Tip for struggling hanging basket
Today’s newspaper had a question about a wilted fuschia basket. I had a similar problem with a hanging basket I bought for my wife on Mother’s Day. I used Miracle Gro every day and the plant still struggled. Compared to another fuchsia basket I had, I noticed the water puddled in the basket and took a long time to drain. Thinking the roots needed more air, I dug four 2 inch diameter holes in the basket and replaced the soil with planting soil that had a lot of vermiculite in it. Today, three weeks later and more Miracle Gro, the plant’s leaves are dark green and there are numerous flowers!

Wow - great detective work. Good drainage is the key for all container gardens.
