Several things can cause this. First is the weather - seeds will sprout but if they are heat loving tomatoes, cucumbers or squash they will fail to thrive if the night temps fall below 50 degrees. Second is poor drainage but black soil that is easy to work sounds good. Another reason is if you overfed them with a liquid fertilizer. Hope this helps, Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
