Flavorless strawberries
I went out of my way to grow my own strawberries to taste again this flavor that I remember from my childhood. I built a fence and used raised beds. I have good quality soil, and so far the plants look perfect, the berries are perfect, but it is impossible to enjoy them. It tastes like you are eating raw potatoes. I bought my plants from different suppliers. The description of the berries offered good flavor. I have none. Please advise me on how to get some flavor from my berries.

Oh dear, strawberries will be flat and flavorless from too much rain. Some varieties that pack and ship well will have less flavor. It also helps to use a mulch of pine needles or straw to keep the berries off the cold ground. In general the smaller berries or \"wild or heirloom\" berries have the most flavor. Check with your local Extension Service as they will do taste tests on what varieties are best for your climate. So sorry about your disappointment. I hope you find sweetness in your berries next year. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
