julio’s Question
Hebe ‘Karo Golden Esk’
I purchased two of these – ended up sitting in their pots longer than expected and one was water logged – in the ground now (added transplant fertilizer) but bottom growth had turned very dark….looks like its dying.
Are these likely to bounce back in the spring? Or is this a natural condition to lose bottom growth?
Thanks

I think you will see your hebe around in the spring. The bottom leaf drop is indeed a symptom of poor drainage, but once in the ground the bottom roots can die off but with any luck the upper roots will spread out into the surround soil to support new spring growth. The hebe plant will drop some lower leaves every fall as part of their natural cycle but this should be barely noticeable. Good Luck! Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
