Marianne's Response

June 30 2011 video on trimming

What is the name of the orange rose in the video

Where would you trim a rose bush during the summer is you have already trimmed and new growth starts to grow. Above or below the new growth? There is no rose on the new growth

Thank you

Marianne's Response

Summer pruning of roses can be just above the new growth if you are talking about side shoots emerging from a rose cane.  If there is no rose blooming you can shorten any cane or branch just above a joint or node where leaves emerge. The orange roses is my garden are either the orange and yellow peace roses or the deep salmon Barbara Bush rose. Pruning always stimulates growth so don't prune in late summer as the new growth could be nipped by an autumn frost. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
