Marianne's Response
jvanderk’s Question
I remember you saying that you can spray your hostas with an ammonia and water mixture to repel slugs. Can you also use this mixture on other plants that slugs like, such as marigolds or newly emerging dahlias?

Marianne's Response
Yes you can - but seedlings and some ferns do not like the ammonia and water mix as it could burn their leaves. Remember to dilute the ammonia with two thirds water and don't spray on a hot and sunny day. This will melt the tiny slugs but only if the spray comes in contact with the slugs. As a bonus the ammonia and water mix will add some nitrogen to feed your plants. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
