jvanderk’s Question

I have some very large lupine plants. When they are through blooming, do I cut back the foliage and if so, how far? Similar question about bearded iris. My mother always cut the foliage back to a fan shape about 4 inches from the ground. Do I do that immediately after blooming is done or do I wait awhile? Thank you for taking the time to answer me. I appreciate it.

You can cut back the foliage of both lupine and iris after they bloom and they will still flower the following year plus you will have a tidy garden and less slugs. The iris can be cut down to 6 inches and the lupines to the same. That reminds me to go outside and cut mine back soon. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
