jydm427’s Question

Hi Marianne:
I have quite a few coleus plants, and notice after some time in the middle of some of the leaves, a flower forms. It sort of looks like a stalk with tiny flowers, which can grow quite tall. Should I remove the stalk or leave it alone? What purpose does it serve (if any) for the plant by removing or leaving the stalk?
Thanks!!!

I suggest you cut out the blooming stalk as soon as you see it form. This is the coleus plant trying to flower and make seeds but doing so will take energy away from the colorful foliage. Removing the stalk also keeps your coleus plants more compact and bushy. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
