Marianne's Response
Rose care
I am a NEW gardener. I just bought two roses impulsively because of the blooms. Please direct me to rose care and fertilizing.
Thanks!

Congratulations! I can promise you a lovely rose garden if you remember these things: roses love full sun and lots of air circulation so don't crowd them in among other plants or grow them in the shade. They also need a lot of food and water to keep blooming all summer. If you plant them into the ground add plenty of compost, manure and slow release plant food like Osmocote. If you decide to grow them in large pots make sure you use a high quality potting mix and containers with drainage holes. Pots should be at least 24 inches deep. Don't let your roses dry out in the summer or they become more susceptible to disease. One way to prevent black spot on the leaves is to avoid getting the foliage wet when you water. A soaker hose works well for roses in the ground. Keep pruning off any faded blooms and you should have blooming color until frost. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
